Ozaukee County Jail Mugshots

The Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office, led by Sheriff Christy Knowles, operates the jail records path connected to current roster images, records requests, warrants, visitation, and PREA material.

Are Ozaukee County Mugshots Public?
Wisconsin public-records law starts with a broad access policy, but it does not create a simple rule that every booking photo must always be released at once. Ozaukee County booking photos should be treated as law-enforcement records. They may be released, redacted, delayed, or withheld if another law, confidentiality rule, juvenile protection, active investigation concern, privacy interest, or balancing test applies.

Wis. Stat. 19.31 states Wisconsin's policy that public records should be open to the greatest extent consistent with law.
Wis. Stat. 19.35(1)(a) gives requesters the right to inspect records unless another law provides otherwise.
Wis. Stat. 59.27 requires the sheriff to keep a true and exact register of prisoners committed to jail.

Ozaukee County Mugshot Retention
The inspected Ozaukee County roster did not publish how long booking photos remain available, whether prior booking photos remain public after release, whether released inmates stay listed, or whether multiple image angles are shown. The safest phrasing is that current roster profiles may include a booking image, but the county did not publish a retention period on the inspected page. What is and isn't public: Current jail profiles may show an inmate image when populated. Historical photos, withheld images, juvenile or confidential matters, and released-person photos may require a records request or may not be released.
Note: Absence of a visible photo does not prove the person was never booked or that no booking record exists.
Request Ozaukee County Booking Photos
If an Ozaukee County booking photo is not visible online, use the Sheriff's Open Records Unit. The county gives four request channels: email a completed form as an attachment, appear in person Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. excluding holidays, mail the request to Ozaukee County Sheriff, P.O. Box 245, Port Washington, WI 53074-0245, Attn: Open Records Unit, or fax it to 262-284-8490, Attn: Open Records Request.
Ask specifically for the booking photo and booking record. Include the person's full name, date of birth if known, booking date or approximate arrest date, incident or case number if known, and requester contact information. If the requester is the subject of the record, the county may ask for additional identification. Payment is due when records are received. Fees over $5 may require prepayment. The Sheriff's Office may take up to 10 days to respond, and digital media may take at least 14 days to reproduce.

Open records is the county route for a booking photo when the roster image is missing, no longer public, or tied to a past custody event.
Ozaukee County Mugshot Removal
Official records are not removed just because a booking photo is unwanted or embarrassing. For official corrections, dismissal, expungement, or record-access questions, use the Sheriff's Open Records Unit, the Clerk of Circuit Court, WCCA case records, or legal counsel. Wis. Stat. 973.015 governs expungement for certain eligible Wisconsin offenses, but expungement does not automatically mean every third-party copy or agency record disappears.
A dismissed charge is not the same as an expunged record. A sealed record is not the same as a deleted image. The official county roster controls the current jail profile. Commercial pay-to-remove offers should not be treated as the route for changing an official Ozaukee County record. The court record is the place to confirm dismissal, conviction, expungement eligibility, and final disposition after an arrest.

Ozaukee County Mugshots and Court Records
A booking photo belongs to the jail side of the case. The court side shows what was filed after the arrest. State and Federal Booking Photos
State and federal custody use different systems. The Wisconsin DOC Offender Locator is for people sentenced to state prison, in DOC custody, or under DOC supervision. DOC profiles may include photos when available, but those are state correctional records, not Ozaukee County jail mugshots. No DOC adult prison was located inside Ozaukee County in the facility map.
Federal systems are different again. The BOP Inmate Locator is for sentenced federal inmates and does not publish federal mugshots through the public locator. ICE ODLS is a custody locator, not a booking-photo gallery.
